Jiu jitsu has always been a male-dominated sport but this is slowly changing. More and more females are hitting the mats and some of them achieving astounding results.

Now the world has many brilliant female athletes. Ana Rodriguez, Ffion Davies, Beatriz Mesquita and many more have now flooded our instagrams with incredible videos of women grappling achieving astounding results.
Jiu jitsu of course doesn’t have to be solely competitive. Jiu jitsu is excellent for women to learn self defence, make new friends, improve fitness and lose weight.
Since I started jiu jitsu one year ago I have massively improved the definition of my body. My abs are defined, my arms are permanently defined. I am a girl who trained every day at the gym since I was a teenager. I always played competitive sport, have tried cross fit, yoga and ran half marathons. Yet nothing compared to the fitness jiu jitsu gave me.
Jiu jitsu changed everything. It made me strong from the core out. My whole body transformed with muscle increasing and body fat percentage reducing.

The female friendships I have formed since starting jiu jitsu have been phenomenal. Women of all walks of life and all ages. I’ve resonated with many of them. Sometimes we have a tough day, some have been through marriage breakdowns, others battling anxiety, others with low self esteem or confidence, others with a huge competitive side who want to compete. No matter where these women come from, no matter what these women are going through, on the mats we are all equal and have formed wonderful bonds.
I know jiu jitsu is something I’ll continue for the rest of my life, not just for the incredible physical benefits, but for the psychological rewards where I am continually challenged and therefore rewarded with the fruits of my labour on the mats.
